Dr. Michael Rosato is one of the most devoted and caring faculty members at HPU.  Dr. Rosato earned his Doctorate in Education (Ed.D) from Indiana University.   He is currently Dean of the School of Education at HPU.

Dr. Sue Jones is a proud graduate of Howard Payne University.  She earned her Bachelor Degree in Education from HPU and also holds a Master of Education in Administration and a Doctorate in Educational Administration.

Dr. Jones has had various educational roles in the Texas school system spanning over 36 years.   She was the superintendent of Brownwood I.S.D. from 2001 to 2008.  During her time as superintendent, the district was awarded several state and national honors.
 
Currently, Dr. Jones is a faculty member teaching in HPU’s Master of Education in Instructional Leadership-online program.  She will be teaching Curriculum Alignment and Management Procedures online next term.

Dr. Steve Mills raves about his students every time he has the opportunity. Dr. Steve Mills is the Director of the Educational Leadership Program at HPU. Previously, he was an adjunct professor @ University of the Southwest Hobbs, NM.

Dr. Mills has significant experience in the field of public education in the State of Texas and has served as a middle-school teacher — 11 years, an elementary school principal — 6 years, and a superintendent of three different school districts (Brackett, Denver City, and Sheldon) — 15 years. 

He also has experience in teaching graduate courses via on-line delivery.  Mills has held memberships in a number of professional organizations and continues to be an active member of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TSTA) and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). 

He completed his doctor of education (Ed.D.) degree from Texas Tech University in 2004.  The research Mills conducted for his Doctor of dissertation entitled, Structured-Interview Questions for Superintendent Hiring Process, is both relevant and timely in relationship to a graduate program in Instructional Leadership.

One of Dr. Mills achivements is the “Superintendent of an Exemplary School District 2000 – 2004″ award.  His hobbies include playing piano, swimming and reading. Beside his two sons and his wife of 31 years, his two English Mastiffs ocupy a warm place in his heart.

Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education - annual conference

Dr. Michael Rosato, dean and professor of education at Howard Payne University, along with HPU associate professor of education, Dr. Mitzi Lehrer, recently attended the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE) annual conference in San Antonio, Texas.  As the name implies, CSOTTE is a coordinating consortium of organizations for educator preparation and development.  It is dedicated to the support and refinement of professional preparation and development programs for all certified school personnel in Texas. 

 

One of the member organizations of CSOTTE is the Texas Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (TACTE).  Dr. Rosato is serving as the current president of TACTE for this academic year.  At the CSOTTE conference, the Fall Meeting of TACTE was held, and Dr. Rosato presided over the meeting.  A number of items were discussed by the TACTE members including Texas College and Career Readiness Standards and Texas Senate Bill 174.  Additionally, Rosato provided a brief report to the members about the Leadership Institute he attended last summer in Washington, D.C.  The Leadership Institute is held annually by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) for state representatives.  Rosato represented TACTE as president of the organization.

 

Dr. Lehrer also represented Howard Payne University at the CSOTTE conference by attending the Texas Directors of Field Experiences (TDFE) annual meeting.  Lehrer serves as Director of Field Placement for the Teacher Education Program at Howard Payne.  Lehrer reports that valuable information was exchanged at the meeting.

Master of Education in Instructional Leadership - New Graduate ONLINE Program at Howard Payne University, TX

BROWNWOOD, TEXAS - Howard Payne University has stepped up to answer the increased demand for online learning in higher education, launching a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership entirely online this fall. Students with busy schedules who want to pursue a master's degree can enjoy the benefits and convenience of online learning from a well-recognized traditional institution with a long heritage of educational excellence.

The Master of Education in Instructional Leadership degree program serves individuals who desire to pursue a career as a certified principal in the state of Texas as well as other states in the country. Aligned with the state standards for principals, the curriculum provides students with an appropriate mixture of theory and practical application.

Since HPU offers the entire program online, students do not have to meet a residency requirement.
